Dhruv Tyagi Wins All 3 Events at Nationals in Coral Springs FL

Dhruv competed at the AAU Diving National Championships from July 29 - Aug 2 in Coral Springs. He won All three 16 year old events and was the high point award winner for the competition tied with Ryan Hawkins and Bryan Bahr.

Dhruv Tyagi has been around swimming pools ever since he was in second grade when he joined the Fairport Area Swim Team. He took up gymnastics the next at the GTC of Rochester where Vladimir Simikov coached him. He qualified to participate as a member of the Regional teams in both of these sports several times throughout the years. In 2005 he left gymnastics and decided to try diving. With only a week of training with Carolyn Carton and Sue Crane of the Webster Blue Fins Diving Club, he fell in love with diving and has since not looked back. He qualified for the East Regional diving meet his first year of diving and then went on to make the Jr. National Meet the following year. Dhruv also began platform diving with the UB diving coach Karla Helder in the fall of 2007. In June 2008 he became a member of the Upstate Diving Club at RIT where Cliff Devries and Greg are coaching him.

He was born on October 2, 1990 and will be a junior this year at high school. He is the current Section V diving champion as well as an All-American. In addition he holds the 11-dive record for Fairport High School. This year, at the AAU National Diving meet held in Coral Springs, Fl., he took first place in both the 1M and 3M springboard events as well as the platform event in the 16 years boys’ category.

Dhruv has been a high honor roll student throughout his academic career. Swimming still plays a role in his life where he apart of his high school varsity team. When he is not doing his homework or not near a pool, he likes to listen to music and play his guitar.
